Asaz_one is a muralist from the Grenoble region in France who is equally passionate about cultural sharing and exchanges with his studio models as he is with local communities from around the world when he paints their portraits. He has produced work in festivals in Kosovo, Chile, in his hometown at the Grenoble Street Art Festival, and has many more projects in the pipeline, including Pompei (Italy).
His work focuses on the distinguishability between image and word by embedding portraits in metaphors. When the eye is simultaneously confronted with the visible and the legible, it undergoes the physical experience of an optical illusion: focusing on the portrait's gaze makes it impossible to decipher the word, and conversely, reading the word makes it impossible to observe the details of the portrait. Through a poetic interplay between the intertwining letters and the intensity of the gaze, the words – both learned language tools and means of expression – are linked to the innate emotions that are visible on the face.
