1-DEX

I started painting in the mid-90s, and over time it grew into a passion that drove me to find out more about the history of graffiti. I practice all disciplines, tags, throw-ups, old school lettering, wildstyle, B-boy…, while also striving to develop my signature style by experimenting and playing around with the alphabet. A self-taught artist, I acquired my skills on the ground, learning how to draw in the dark, to work silently and let my pieces do the talking. I painted my first train in 2012 at a time when a lot of other people were also doing the same, so I had to find something that would make me stand out, and New York subway carriages in French train yards and stations were bound to get noticed!

108

108

In fifteen years, 108’s work has moved from traditional graffiti to abstract shapes in yellow, then black and finally multicolour, all of which have organic roots. The diaphanous, shadowy atmosphere that emanates from his paintings also shows through in his music, film, and sculpture.

3TTMAN

3TTMAN

From Lille (France) and now based in Spain, 3ttman blurs the boundaries between art and artisanry through the use of different “raw” materials: paint, concrete, papier maché, ceramics and clay. The spontaneous and highly colourful style of his creations is directly inspired by popular art, vernacular art, and his observations of the everyday changes that cities undergo.

4FAM

AIR1DUC

AIR1DUC

Steeped in the hip-hop culture, my work today is infused with the experience of 35 years painting the streets: the exploration and experimentation, graffiti’s inherent energy and speed, and its lettering are all integral parts. Depending on the series, my works contain elements from pop art, comic book characters, or 80s cartoons, and utilize a calligraphy or graffiti lettering style.

His works are mostly in black and white, making his message clear and simple, and coming straight from the heart.

He began to take an interest in graffiti when the first specialist magazines on the subject were being published and with the advent of the internet. In 2003, he picked up a spray can for the first time at an introductory class in a leisure centre and hasn’t looked back since. Subsequent encounters with his peers in the various brownfield sites in and around St Etienne allowed him to hone his technique and he very quickly developed a preference for characters and backgrounds over lettering.

On both canvas and wall, Bault produces art that is instinctive, devoid of any preconceived ideas, and that offers up a unique and constantly evolving representation of the world. BLANK

BLANK

I’m Blank, a self-taught artist, from Vichy (France). My work features on Such’Art, an art walk in Clermont-Ferrand, both as solo pieces and collaborative projects that were very pleasant experiences. Many aspects of this artistic world appeal to me: the mask, spray can, words, colour, and the idea of making something beautiful that wasn’t before, adding a bit of colour to our daily lives. Putting an idea on a wall and then letting it go, rather like dropping a seed. I like that art goes to people when people no longer go to museums. And resistance through art. Finally, education through street art. I am a mother of three an also a schoolteacher who introduces children to graffiti writing from the age of two. The relationship with the past, plants and the earth is also something that resonates with me.

BOM.K

BOM.K

Born in the Parisian suburbs, Bom.K fell into graffiti at the age of 17. Under the influence of the pioneers of the time, he initiated himself into the grammar of the movement on the walls, vacant lots, and trains of his neighborhood. In 1999, he founded the collective Da Mental Vaporz with Iso and began producing a more personal and intimate graffiti style. Padded isolation rooms, nightmarish concrete bars, gaunt B-boys with sinister expressions...
